Making Media Available to Northwest Michigan

TCTV2 has now become the Northwest Michigan Community Media Center, housed at LIAA, offering expanded access, services and content.
Come to our Open House!
Thursday, September 04, 2008

Public access television supporters are invited to an Open House and Community Celebration in honor of the new public access television station, Up North 2, on Wednesday, September 17th from 3:30 pm to 6:30 pm.

The staff members of Up North 2 will provide facility tours, show off the video cameras and editing equipment available on loan to the public, and demonstrate the new automated Studio now available through Northwest Michigan's Public Access Television station.

The celebration will include beverages and light snacks, short presentations and guided tours of the entire LIAA building. Attendees will have an opportunity to experience the digital magic of the "green wall" and receive a behind the scenes tour of a working television station.

The Open House and Community Celebration will be hosted by LIAA, at 324 Munson Avenue in Traverse city, the parent organization for the new Up North 2.  Everyone is invited to join this event!

The Up North 2 Studio is Open for Business!
Thursday, August 21, 2008

The Up North 2 studio is now equipped and production ready.  It has three remotely operated cameras, is fully wired for sound, has a green wall for chroma-keying (like the weatherperson) and has a production system that can make your shows look very professional.

Up North 2 Producers can get certified to use the studio by taking the Studio Producer Certification class.  See our Classes page for details and the class schedule.

Public Access Television Saved!
The LIAA team recently moved equipment from the Traverse City Public Library to Up North 2 new studio located at 324 Munson Ave. in Traverse City.
Thursday, July 10, 2008

This month, LIAA is taking over the management and operation of public access television for the 7-county viewing area of northwest Lower Michigan. Supplied by Charter Communications to cable television subscribers, the new Up North 2 will be the only public access television resource in this region, reaching most subscribers in Antrim, Benzie, Charlevoix, Emmet, Grand Traverse, Kalkaska, and Leelanau Counties.

To host and manage the public access television service, LIAA has formed the Northwest Michigan Community Media Center (CMC) as a membership-based wing of its nonprofit community service operation in Traverse City. The CMC will be equipped with a television broadcast studio and control room, digital editing stations, a computer-training classroom, video production equipment for check out, and staff office space. The full facility is expected to be up and running by the end of the month.

Calling All Producers!
Become authorized to check-out equipment to use for creating your own videos!

Producers who become certified with the CMC are being sought to assist with a number of local video productions. CMC staff members say that many nonprofit organizations are looking for assistance in developing content for cablecast on Up North 2 and as on-demand video over the Internet. In most cases, Certified Producers are called on to volunteer in support of these video production efforts. However, a few Certified Producers will be asked to assist with cameras, editing, and other video production work for pay as a contractor to the CMC.  View our Special Opportunities page for more information.
Become a Producer
If you are a current certified producer, please submit the Producer Information Update Form. People who are not yet certified producers must attend one of the orientation courses offered.
Thursday, July 10, 2008
The new CMC is calling on people who have completed production classes under tctv 2 to join the new Up North 2. CMC staff have announced that Producers who were active with tctv 2 do not need to take additional classes, but must complete the Producer Information Update Form to verify their contact information in the Producer database.

Other options are available to anyone who wants to become a Certified Producer. Orientation and production classes will begin in August. There will also be a Refresher Class for people who want to be reacquainted with video production for public access television.
